Simple Melee
Carter with a long sword (Blades 3) as he comes up to the top of the stairs is set upon by 3 thugs using short swords (Blades 1). All characters have attributes of 50.
- Carter's initiative is 5[1d10 roll] + 3[Blades 3] + 0[Weapon Speed Modifier] = 8
- Thug1's initiative is 8[1d10 roll] + 1[Blades 1] + 2[Weapon Speed Modifier] = 11
- Thug2's initiative is 3[1d10 roll] + 1[Blades 1] + 2[Weapon Speed Modifier] = 6
- Thug3's initiative is 6[1d10 roll] + 1[Blades 1] + 2[Weapon Speed Modifier] = 9
The order of actions for the melee round is:
- Thug1, initiative 11
- Thug3, initiative 9
- Carter, initiative 8
- Thug2, initiative 6
Beginning of Melee
Second 1
- Thug1 acts first. There is a wall between Thug1 and Carter. Thug1 can't attack, but he can move into a position where he can attack Carter on second 2.
- Thug1 moves 5' forward towards Carter.
- Thug3 acts next. Thug3 can not immediately attack Carter. Thug3 decides to move into a position where he can attack. With a movement of 100, Thug3 can move 10' in one second (10% of Movement).
- Thug3 moves 10' north to a position directly behind Thug1.
- Carter acts next. Carter can attack Thug1 if he chooses to, because Thug1 stepped into a square where Carter can attack.
- Carter rolls 2d10, 48. He strikes Thug1 in the 8 and does 1d8 damage, 3 plus his strength bonus of 2 for 5 points of damage. However Thug1 is wearing leather Armor(damage reduction 2) and takes only 3 points of damage in the 8 (right leg).
- Thug2 acts last in the second. Thug2 can not immediately attack Carter. Thug2 decides to move into a position where he can attack. With a movement of 100, Thug2 can move 10' in one second (10% of Movement).
- Thug2 moves 10' northwest to the position originally occupied by Thug1.

Second 2
- Thug1 acts first. Thug1 can attack or move
- Thug1 attacks rolls 2d10, 21. Thug1 bumps the blow to Carter's head (from zone 1 to zone 0). However Carter has not yet acted in the second and decides to attempt to block the blow.
- Carter attempts to block rolls 2d10, 63. Carter blocks the blow. However Carter has used his action for this second and can NOT move, attack or block for the rest of the second.
- Thug3 acts next. Thug3 still can not attack Carter. Thug3 decides to move into a position where he can attack.
- Thug3 moves 5' North West and 5' West to stand next to Carter.
- Carter has already acted in blocking Thug1's attack.
- Thug2 acts last in the second. Thug2 can not attack Carter as the wall blocks him. Thug2 decides to move into a position where he can attack. With a movement of 100, Thug2 can move 10' in one second (10% of Movement).
- Thug2 moves 5' North East then 5' North West to a position where he can attack Carter in the next second.
End of second 2
Second 3
- Thug1 can move or bump attacks made on him, but is out of actions (Blades 1) and can make no more attacks this round.
- Thug1 moves South 5' to put a wall between him and Carter.
- Thug3 acts next. Thug3 can attack Carter or move.
- Thug3 attacks rolls 2d10, 72 and misses Carter.
- Carter can attack Thug3 or attack Thug2 or move. Carter has used 2 actions of his 3 actions (Blades 3) and has only 1 attack left.
- Carter attacks Thug3 rolls 2d10 for 56 and hits in the 6. Carter bumps the blow three places (Blades 3) to the 3 (Stomach). Thug3 already acted this second and can not defend. The attack does 1d8, 5, plus 2 points for Carter's strength bonus.
- Thug3 can not defend but can bump 1 place (Blade 1) to the 4 (right arm). The leather armor reduces his damage by 2. Thug3 takes 5 points of damage to the right arm. This is the limit of damage Thug3 can take. See Damage. Thug3 can no longer use his right arm. Thug3 rolls a Willpower check 2d10 for 85, failing the check and passes out.
- Thug2 can attack Carter or move.
- Thug2 attacks rolls 2d10, 33 and hits Carter in the 3 (stomach). The short sword does 1d6, 3, plus Thug2's strength bonus of 2.
- Carter has already acted in this second and can not defend but he can bump the hit 3 places. Carter bumps the hit to 5 (left arm). Carter's studded leather reduces the damage by 3. Carter takes 2 points of damage to the left arm.
End of second 3
Second 4
- Thug1 can move, or bump attacks made on him, but is out of actions (Blades 1) and can make no more attacks this round.
- Thug1 holds fast with a wall between him and Carter.
- Thug3 is unconscious with a severely wounded arm and can take no action.
- Carter is out of actions. He can bump if attacked or move.
- Carter still out number moves West 10' back down the stairs.
- Thug2 is out of actions. He can bump if attacked or move.
- Thug2 moves 10' West placing himself between Carter and the down Thug3.
End of second 4
Second 5
- Thug1 moves 5' to tend to the fallen Thug3.
- Thug3 can take no action.
- Carter still out number and wounded, moves West 10'.
- Thug2 holds fast staying between Carter and the fallen Thug3.
End of second 5
Carter withdraws, the Thugs tend to their wounded and melee is over.
