Initiative determines who acts first during a melee round. Winning initiative determines if the character gets to act or react in melee. Each person in melee rolls their initiative and the character with the highest value acts first, the next highest value acts second and so on until the order of all characters is determined.

Melee Skill Initiative

Formula: 1d10 + [Skill Level in melee weapon] + [Weapon Speed] + [Modifiers].

  1. At the beginning of the character rolls 1d10.
  2. The character rolls adds their melee skill level to the 1d10 roll. This modifier gives an advantage to higher skill levels. It represents the characters increased experience and more highly developed attributes with the weapon.
  3. The character adds their weapon speed modifier. Small weapons are quicker, large weapons are slower and the bonus or penalty is added to the 1d10 roll. See the chart below for Weapon Speed.
  4. The character adds any miscellaneous modifiers. These modifiers account for terrain, surprise or and other condition the GM see's fit to add in.
  5. The player with the highest number acts first.
  6. The player with the next highest number acts next, and so on.
  7. When all players have acted the round ends.
